The first homeopathic Materia Medica was created by Samuel Hahnemann. It is known as Materia Medica Pura and contains symptoms produced by provings and poisonings as well as names of provers and the times of occurrence for most symptoms.

Later on Hahnemann published his book “Chronic Diseases” which also contained a Materia Medica section. These two works became the basis for Therapeutic Pocketbook, the first homeopathic repertory created by C. von Boenninghausen. Other important texts on Homeopathic Materia Medica were written by Allen, Hering and Clarke. All of them include symptoms from Hahnemann’s books and new provings of homeopathic remedies. Basing mostly on works by Hahnemann, Allen and Hering, James Tyler Kent created his detailed repertory of homeopathic remedies used by most homeopaths all over the world. All modern homeopathic repertories are based on this Kent’s work. Kent’s repertory is also included into the library of Homeopathy Pro.

There are also such books as condensed Materia Medica. They include most characteristic symptoms of homeopathic remedies. These books are very convenient to use since their articles are virtually stuffed with useful information and make it easier to get a general image of the remedy. Among these books there are such highly appraised volumes as Boger’s Synoptic key to Materia Medica and Boericke’s Homeopathic Materia Medica, which are of great help when you have to verify the remedy selected with the help of a repertory. Both books are available in the library of Homeopathy Pro, the former is best used with Boenninghausen’s repertory, while the latter is ideal for usage with Kent’s repertory of homeopathic remedies.
